| In the absence of a local pageant, Miss Guyana World franchise holder, England based Ken Chung has selected a Guyana representative for the international pageant. She is Imarah Radix, aged 24, of Kingston Georgetown.She is scheduled to be crowned and sashed today at the Roraima Duke Lodge, Duke Street at 17:30 hrs.Minister of Culture Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony, is scheduled to sash the new queen while reigning Miss Guyana World, Christa Simmons, will hand over the crown.Miss Guyana World 2009 Imarah Radix Meanwhile, the new queen, Imarah Radix, will on Wednesday be engaged in a feeding programme at the Red Cross Children’s Convalescent Home, Durban Backlands at 17:00hrs.On Thursday she will distribute food to the children of Tiger Bay through the Varca Foundation from the School of the Nations.She would also feed the poor at the mosque in Meten-Meer-Zorg on Friday from 16:00hrs to 17:00hrs.Who is Miss Guyana World 2009 Imarah Radix, aged 24, graduated from Cobham Hall Girls School Kent, England, with ten G.C.S.E’s, including French and Dance. She went on to earn three Advanced Levels passes in Russian History, English Literature and Classical Greek Civilisation at the same school.She recently graduated from Oxford Brookes University with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Politics.Imarah has deferred her place on the Masters Degree course in International Relations and Diplomacy at the University College Kensington, London to take up the once in a lifetime opportunity to represent Guyana at the Miss World Pageant.She describes herself as very outgoing and friendly and boasts a wide variety of interests outside of her academic pursuits. Her many hobbies include swimming, reading, modelling, singing, Flower arranging and dance /choreography.During her A-Levels, Imarah undertook the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award where she learned the invaluable benefits of working with others. She also learned navigational skills such as map reading and enjoyed the challenge of setting up camps outdoor.She is also an ardent scuba diver being both SSI and PADI trained and is certified in the Open Water and Advanced Open Water diver courses with five specialties.She is a trained wreck diver, navigational diver, deep diver, peak performance diver, underwater naturalist and search and recovery diver.All these specialties have enhanced her ability to be a safe and more qualified diver. The underwater naturalist specialty was the one she enjoyed the most as it was focused on caring for and maintaining the underwater environment in light of climate change and human degradation of the environment.She participated in fish-spotting while on her dives to help monitor the number of fish species in the water and to measure the impact of climate change on fishes and their habitat.Her sense of adventure has taken her to Egypt, Margarita Island off Venezuela, Thailand, Nigeria, several European destinations and also to the wider Caribbean. Through travelling and diving, Imarah has enjoyed the experiences of interacting with and meeting new people and learning about their cultures, history and way of life in their countries.Also having a fervent interest in dance,Cheap NFL Jerseys Supply, Imarah began her classical ballet training at the age of three. She has also appeared on television in US AIDS awareness commercials and in music videos for local Guyanese Artistes.Imarah also won a competition in the United Kingdom to become the face of a brand called Tigress Clothing.Imarah often visits the children’s orphanage in Durban Backlands to help out in any way she can.She has also undertaken as of last year, an annual feeding of the poor across the river in memory of her grandma who taught her the benefits and blessings gained through charitable acts.After completing her master’s degree, Imarah hopes to work in the area of Human Rights either with the United Nations or an affiliated non-governmental organisation. |
