| Family suspects foul playThe badly decomposed body of a man of No. 5 Village, who was reported missing since April 1, was found Tuesday afternoon in a clump of bushes near a nursery school. He would collect bottles and sell and would visit him sometimes, but that he does not live at that address.He said that his brother was last seen on the evening of April 1 at a nearby shop where he usually frequents. Residents said that the man was subsequently accused of stealing from the shop and was found with a bag containing two Turbo Drinks, a bottle of Cherry Brandy and a quarter bottle of rum. The bag was taken away and around 02:00 hrs on Saturday the man subsequently left and went in the backlands.After not seeing him around, searches were mounted and reports were made to the various police stations nearby. But no one could have given an account of the sudden disappearance of the man.Relatives suspect that the man may have been killed somewhere else and his body taken there. One of them is contending that his teeth were missing and his legs appeared to be damaged.They are wondering how come the man died so close to homes and a school and no one saw or heard anything. How come there was no smell. According to them there were signs of trampling. There were a number of bottles nearby including a mentholated spirit bottle and a number of others suspected to contain some sort of liquids. Three sealed packets of cigarettes and his boots were nearby. According to relatives there were signs that the area was sprayed to conceal the smell.When the body was found a report was made and police quickly descended on the scene. The body was examined but due to its decomposed state it was difficult to determine marks of violence.According to information about three children were playing hide and seek in the village and a little girl had gone to hide in the shrubs near the school fence. As the others were closing in on her, the child suddenly darted from the bushes shouting “Gadaffi lie down dey.” The children all in fright screamed as they raced away from the scene. Relatives and residents quickly descended at the scene and to their horror saw the badly decomposed body of the man.However the police are saying that the man was reportedly ill. According to reports, he would usually frequent the area. He apparently fell ill and subsequently died. Some residents reported smelling something funny, but thought it was a dead donkey. They stated that apparently dogs would have eaten the man’s flesh.Craig’s body is at the Bailey’s Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem examination.The man was never married and has no children.He was the youngest of two brothers and eight sisters.Investigations are continuing. |
