| Dear Editor,The Oxford Concise Dictionary defines an association as “a group of people organised for a joint purpose”.Based on that definition, my question is: what is the purpose of the minibus associations?Their apparent interests and actions over the past years would lead one to believe that their purpose is solely to increase fares when the opportunity presents itself.Given that they masquerade as functional associations,Bobby Doerr Jersey, they capitalise on any window of opportunity to raise fares since they are apparently incapable of doing anything that will meaningfully add to the much needed development of an organised minibus system.Though this country has a number of minibus associations, the minibus system survives and operates as that of a maverick system.Anarchy characterised by loud music, overloading, speeding and unsystematic navigation on the roadways continues, simply serving as a testament to the indifference and/or incompetence of the minibus associations.Since none of the above-stated lawlessness has been effectively addressed by the minibus associations, they should consider changing their names to The Fare-Increase Association; their name will then be cohesive with their actions and their purpose will be clear to all.Ganesh Gupta |
