| Residents of Subryanville, Georgetown will be moving to the courts in order to stop the erection of a three-storey building which is to be used for commercial purposes.Terrence Edwards, who has been living in the community for close to five years, told Kaieteur News that, on June 23 last, residents of the community received a letter from the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) stating that the CHPA has received an application from a developer for the erection of a concrete building, to be constructed at Lots 12 and 13 of Subryanville, so as to accommodate a hardware store, restaurant and bar.Edwards noted that since the area is a residential one,Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic, it would be illegal for the CHPA to give permission for the construction of a restaurant and bar in the community.He said that the Chief Development Planner of the CHPA, Rawle Edinboro, gave the residents his word that no such permission will be granted for the construction of such a building.However, this was not the case, as according to the resident, since early last month, construction of the building commenced.Edwards said that he found this to be very strange, since Edinboro had told the residents that permission will not be granted to the developer.He added that when construction commenced at the site, the residents of the community desperately tried to make contact with Edinboro at the CHPA, but to no avail, as they were continuously told that he is unable to take the call or he is in a meeting.As a result, the residents have signed a petition against the construction of the commercial building, as according to Edwards, the establishment of a restaurant and bar in a community like Subryanville will have a direct negative impact on the children in the area.He noted that the community is a peaceful and quiet one and that it is where he is looking forward to live after his retirement.However, the residents fear that if such a business is to be established in the area, then it might draw the attention of criminals and may even introduce violence in the community.As a result of the residents’ fruitless effort to make contact with Edinboro, they have now decided to take legal action against the developer in order to stop the construction of the commercial entity. Meanwhile, when Kaieteur News made contact with the CHPA, this newspaper was told that Mr. Edinboro was on vacation.This newspaper was then referred to another development planner of the CHPA, Germene Stewart, who noted that it is not the Central Housing and Planning Authority’s policy to grant permission to developers for the construction of commercial buildings in residential areas.When questioned if permission was indeed granted to the developer in the community, Stewart said that Mr. Edinboro was the only person who dealt specifically with that matter.She, however, did explain that the CHPA grants permission for the construction of three-storey residential buildings. |
