Further, the Ministry stated that the vessel, laden with supplies, was heading to gold mining operations upriver.A relative of one of the survivors related that as the boat was navigating the rapids which led to a waterfall, when its engines stopped.Unfortunately the captain of the vessel failed to get the engine working before it reached the waterfall. The force of the water sent the boat over the falls and its occupants into the rough water.Those who were rescued were said to have been wearing lifejackets just like the others who are now missing. This publication was told that a passing boat went to the aid of those passengers who were still afloat. However up to press time yesterday there was no sighting of the missing persons.The boat is said to be owned by Severn Williams. The captain of the boat up to press time was in police custody assisting with investigations.This incident is the second most deadly, in the recent months with the most tragic being the mishap which occurred in January and resulted in ten deaths. |
