| – Robert CorbinLeader of the Peoples National Congress Reform, Robert Corbin,Clark Griswold Jersey, says that his party will be identifying a team with a wide platform that will enjoy the confidence of the majority of the people of Guyana to take the nation forward.Corbin made the statement during a recent press briefing where he said that the issue of a search for a presidential candidate is being blown out of proportion and also must not be focused on in isolation.Corbin explained that under Guyana’s electoral law, the President of the country is elected on the basis of largest number of votes cast for a list of candidate.The party leader explained that it is only on nomination day that the party identifies who is the candidate out of that list.He explained that the fate of the President is dependent on the success of the party’s list and, “while it is true that the personality of the President would have some influence, equally important is the image of the party and the list for the election.”Corbin told media operatives that the issue is not just who the presidential candidate is but how the PNCR will produce a group of persons to take this country forward.The Opposition Leader said that it is for that reason that his party has been advocating the need for a large platform, “We have not abandoned our belief of shared governance…it is necessary if this country is to break out of the cycle of the political conflict over the years and it is in that context that we are looking at presidential candidate.”Corbin emphasised that it is not just a candidate for the PNCR. “We might very well have the Presidential Candidate that enjoys the confidence of the majority of the people other than the People’s Progressive Party…it is about bringing about change in Guyana.”With the 2011 General Elections fast approaching, coupled with the fact that Corbin has signaled that he is not interested in being the presidential candidate,Cheap NBA Jerseys China, there is a plethora of speculations as to who should be the party’s consensus candidate.The name instinctively being referred to by members of the hierarchy of the party is Winston Murray.When contacted by this newspaper recently, Murray at that point in time said he would be offering no comments on the matter.Dr Richard Van West Charles who recently had signaled his intention to challenge the incumbent leader of the party,Deportivas Asics Hombre Baratas, Robert Corbin, and had subsequently supported Murray’s challenge, has again thrown his weight behind him.According to Dr Van West Charles, if Murray does not accept such a nomination then he will be available, but his position is that Murray will be a good candidate and he has his support.Another longstanding member of the party, shadow Foreign Affairs Minister, Aubrey Norton,Cheap NFL Jerseys China, told this newspaper that he is of the opinion that Murray is the best person to run as presidential candidate against the People’s Progressive Party in the next General Elections.This was also the view of party shadow Home Affairs Minister,NFL Jerseys Outlet, Deborah Backer, who said that she supports Corbin’s position that there should be a consensus candidate and her “instinctive choice” was Murray.According to Backer,Cheap NFL Jerseys, she would readily throw her weight behind Murray as the party’s presidential candidate.This newspaper also spoke to several other persons in the party who said that Murray would be the ideal candidate to be the presidential candidate for the PNCR in 2011.In January of last year, following differences with the party on their position on the Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union, Murray resigned as party Chairman and subsequently challenged Corbin for the leadership of the party.
