The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) will soon recommence its “countrywide outreach programme” with a series of bottom house and community meetings. This was told to the media yesterday by the Party’s General Secretary, Clement Rohee. The recommencement of the election campaign was the focus of Rohee’s opening statement at the PPP weekly press conference at Freedom House, Robb Street, Georgetown. He said that his Party is encouraged by the show of support it has been receiving during the several party outreaches conducted before the holiday season.According to Rohee,Jordan Outlet Australia, while the outreaches were in sessions, citizens showed overwhelming support for President Donald Ramotar’s decision to prorogue Parliament to avoid facing the Alliance for Change (AFC) sponsored No-Confidence motion against the Government. The General Secretary told the media that Party members and supporters took the opportunity during the community meetings and outreaches to pledge their continued support to the Party and their commitment to work untiringly to realize a complete victory for the party in the upcoming elections.“Residents also took the opportunity to raise community issues with party functionaries and expressed satisfaction with the role played by the Party in bringing these to the attention of policy makers and relevant authorities” said Rohee. He said, also, that the PPP, during its interaction with those on the ground, “saw encouraging signs that the PPP/C would win a comfortable majority of the votes whenever elections are held, thereby, being in a much better position to continue with its development agenda without hindrance by opposition parties.”Rohee said that Party leaders were told that several former PPP supporters who voted for the AFC in the last elections regretted their decision. He asserted that this may be because AFC led a campaign of “lies and false hopes” to the people in 2011.When asked how residents reacted to the fact that President Ramotar did not fulfill some of the promises he made during the 2011 election campaign, like the one to hold Local Government Elections, Rohee said that people “understood.”He said that many indeed raised concerns that could have been solved by the holding of Local Government Elections but were appeased when Party Leaders explained to them why the President made the decision to hold the elections. The General Secretary also told the media that PPP is well underway with its preparations for the imminent elections. “Already we have started to mobilize volunteers and activate our elections machinery. We have never been afraid of elections.”
