Big win kept Lindero Canyon principal in area
Had it not been for a big win and a new car on "Wheel of Fortune" in 1975, Lindero Canyon Middle School students may never have enjoyed the many benefits of Principal Ronald Kaiser's 21 year tenure from 1990 until his retirement in June.
Kaiser was a New Yorker. He was born in New York City and, while getting his master's degree at NYU, his first teaching job was in 1969 as an English teacher at a middle school he had attended as a youngster.
Kaiser taught in New York for seven years, but a bi coastal romance with his wife to be Sharon, brought him to Los Angeles to explore the territory in 1975.
"The truth is, had I not won the car, I would not be here. The game show changed my life," Kaiser said. "I had moved out here and we were living in an apartment in Encino. I was substitute teaching, but we were sharing one car. While I was waiting for her to return with the car, I was watching these game shows and thinking, 'I can do that,' so I found out how Beats By Dre Pill to do it and I won pretty big the first day. Matt McKagan, the school's band director, said Kaiser achieved those goals.
"I was extremely lucky to work with Ron for over 20 years," McKagan said. "He was always so supportive and encouraging to his faculty and staff. He strongly believed in giving his teachers the freedom to be creative and innovative with the underlying understanding that supporting student achievement must always be the ultimate goal. He was a big supporter of all academic areas and also understood that the arts in education needs to be a fundamental part of a student's educational experience.
"During his tenure at Lindero, he attended nearly every music performance, including the strings, band and choir concerts. Buy Beats By Dre He was in attendance at the district office when our art students received awards, and he was always a cheering audience member at our spring musicals," McKagan continued. "He will truly be missed at Lindero, but I'm sure his influence will continue to be a guiding force for years to come."
There are many highlights in Kaiser's 21 years, including the 25th anniversary assembly of Lindero's history in 1993 (with Kevin Eubanks playing Jimi Hendrix); being the first secondary school in the Cheap Beats Headphones Las Virgenes district to win a national blue ribbon in 2000; seeing the completion of the construction project at the school; and the receipt of the Bravo Award in 2009, which honors role models in arts education.
"For me, winning that award, and being able to give an acceptance speech at Disney Hall, was really the highlight in many ways," Kaiser said. "It took a long time, and the process was wonderful in terms of the judges seeing what I know to be true about the school's band, string and musical theater programs and how we integrate the arts into the curriculum."
Kaiser's retirement was announced fairly suddenly as he was offered a job working on a limited basis as a curricular consultant for the Las Virgenes Unified School District.
"I was presented with an opportunity by the superintendent and had a very short timeline to decide," Kaiser said. "One of the reasons I decided to take it was because I almost needed an impetus to leave Lindero Louis Vuitton Bags Sale Australia because it is a wonderful place and a place I am inordinately proud of, so I leave with mixed emotions."
