| As the preliminary inquiry into the murder of Queen’s College student, Nessa Gopaul, continues, Detective Assistant Superintendent Terrace Paul who is attached to the Leonora Police Station was called to give his evidence in chief yesterday.Jarvis Small, who is a gym instructor, and Bibi Gopaul, the teen’s mother, are accused of killing the young girl between September 24 and October 2, at Madewini on the Soesdyke Linden Highway.The matter is presently being heard before Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates Court.Paul gave evidence in chief about certain events leading up to the arrest of the two defendants.After giving his evidence in Chief, ASP Paul was cross-examined by Senior Counsel Bernard De Santos who is representing Small.Several questions were asked by the counsel to which, Prosecutor Robert Tyndall objected.Now it was time for Vic Puran who is representing Gopaul to cross examine Paul.The lawyer took a very lengthy time to do so. Prosecutor Tyndall made the point that Paul might be recalled as the PI continues. The matter was adjourned and is expected to continue today at 10:30 hrs.On the last occasion, Assistant Superintendent Denise Griffith was called to give evidence.After Griffith gave her evidence in chief, Senior Counsel Bernard De Santos, declined cross examination, but told the court that he might have to recall the witness as the case progresses.Vic Puran however opted to cross-examine Griffith. After about a half hour cross examination, the matter was adjournedLance Corporal Anoudh Bissoon, Jennifer Sumrah and Keisha Douglas have all testified. Bissoon gave evidence about a medical examination form.Mishka Puran,Cheap Jerseys Free Shipping, who appeared in association with her father, Vic Puran, for Gopaul, objected to the tendering of the medical form.Magistrate Beharry after listening to the arguments allowed the medical to be tendered into evidence.Special Constable, Jennifer Sumrah, testified about a report which was made earlier by the deceased. Cross examination by both counsels was declined.Detective Constable Keisha Douglas who was the third witness merely spoke about taking the deceased for a medical examination. Cross examination again was declined.This newspaper was told that a total of 27 witnesses are expected to be called in the matter.Neesa Gopaul went missing on September 23, last, and a report was made at the Leonora Police Station by her mother two days later.The girl’s body was found at the Emerald Towers Resort, on the Highway on October 2, last.The teen’s disfigured body was in a large suitcase that was dumped into the Madewini Creek. Certain articles found in the suitcase, led to the two defendants being arrested and charged with murder.A length of rope was wrapped around the body and the killer(s) had attached two dumb-bells, weighing more than 80 pounds, to the other end of the rope apparently in an effort to weigh the body down.The victim was wearing a pair of black shorts and a multi-coloured top.Her passport and a bank card were found with the remains.The gruesome find was made by a family that had gone to the abandoned resort to swim in the Madewini Creek. |
