They sustained injuries and had to be hospitalised.Gertrude Edwards’ two younger children, five-year old Althea Williamson and six-year-old Gladstone Williamson, she had borne for the suspect. They were unharmed.It was related that the man had picked up a knife from the kitchen and cut their mother’s throat. The woman after being attacked had tried to escape, but had collapsed and died on a neighbour’s staircase after the vicious attack.After fatally wounding the woman, Williamson had escaped. The police had launched a manhunt for him and found him hiding in the canfields aback of West Canje.In open court he expressed remorse for what he did and asked the court for leniency.His state-appointed defence counsel in a plea of mitigation asked the court to temper justice with mercy. He said that Williamson has expressed deep remorse ever since the incident happened and has thrown himself to the mercies of the court. |
