Along with the Sakya plus Gelug schools, the Kagyu tradition is assessed as one of the "New Transmission" schools (Sarma) as it largely follows Tantric teachings (Vajrayna) which were changed into Tibetan during the second diffusion on the Buddha Dharma into Tibet (diffusing the what are known as New Tantras). Also, along with the Nyingma along with Sakya schools it is considered any Red Hat sect.
Like all universities of Tibetan Buddhism, the Kagyu consider the practices and teachings inclusive of the full range of Buddha's teachings (or maybe three yna), since they follow the standard teachings and vows of human liberation and monastic discipline (Pratimoksha). People teachings in turn accord with the Mulasarvastivada tradition of the rvakayna (sometimes called Nikya Buddhism and also "Hnayna" ); the Bodhisattva teachings, vows involving universal liberation and viewpoint of the Mahyna; and the profound implies and samaya pledges of the Solution Mantra Vajrayna.
What differentiates the particular Kagyu from the other schools of Himalayan Buddhism are primarily the particular esoteric instructions and tantras they emphasize and the lineages of transmission to follow.
Due to the Kagyu tradition's particularly strong emphasis on guru devotion and expert yoga, and the personal indication of esoteric instructions (dam ngag or perhaps man ngag) from master in order to disciple, the early Kagyu tradition soon gave rise to a bewildering quantity of independent sub schools and also sub sects centered around person charismatic Kagyu teachers and their lineages. I am frequently see references to the "Atisha Kagyu" ("the precept transmission from Atia") for the early on Kadampa,[1] or to "Jonang Kagyu" Supra Tk Society Mid for the Jonangpa and "Ganden Kagyu" for that Gelugpa sects.[2]
Today, the term Kagyu typically refers to the Marpa Kagyu or Dagpo Kagyu and its away shoots, which developed with the teachings transmitted by the translator Marpa Chkyi Lodr and his successors. It also applies to the actual separate lesser known Shangpa Kagyu tradition, which usually developed from the teachings on their own transmitted by Khyungpo Naljor.[3]
A note is needed regarding the two forms Dkar brgyud sound and Bka' brgyud pa. The term Bka' brgyud pa simply applies to any brand of transmission of an esoteric training from teacher to disciple. We could properly speak of a Jo nang Bka' brgyud sound or Dge ldan Bka' brgyud pa for the Jo nang sound and Dge lugs pa sects. This adherents of the sects in which practice the teachings centring across the Phyag rgya chen po and the N ro chos pill are properly referred to as this Dwags po Bka' brgyud pa because these teachings were all transmitted through Sgam po pa. Similar teachings in addition to practices centering around the National insurance gu chos drug are distinctive of your Shangs pa Bka' brgyud pa. These two cultures with their offshoots are often incorrectly referenced simply as Bka' brgyud pa.
Several of the more careful Tibetan scholars recommended that the term Dkar brgyud pa be used to refer to the Dwags po Bka' brgyud sound, Shangs pa Bka' brgyud pa and a few slight traditions transmitted by N ro pa, Mar pa, Michigan la ras pa, or Ras chung missouri but did not pass through Sgam p . o . pa. The term Dkar brgyud pa means use of the white cotton introspection garment by all these lineages. This specific complex is what is normally identified, inaccuratly, as the Bka' brgyud pa. Thu'u kwan Blo bzang chos kyi nyi ma covers the matter: "In some later 'Brug california texts the written style 'Dkar brgyud' indeed appears, because Mar pa, Mi la, Gling ras, as well as others wore only white silk cotton cloth. Nevertheless, it Ghd Australia Online Sales is great if [they] are all called Bka' brgyud.Inch At Thu'u kwan's suggestion, then, we will side with convention and use the idea of "Bka' brgyud."[4]
One source indicates "the term 'Kagyu' derives from the Tibetan phrase indicating 'Lineage of the Four Commissioners' (Ka bab shi gyu pa). This four fold lineage is definitely
the illusory body and transfer yogas of the Guhyasamaja and Chatushpitha Tantra, transmitted via Tilopa, Nagarjuna, Indrabhuti, and Saraha;
the dream pilates practice of the Mahamaya from Tilopa, Charyapa, plus Kukuripa;
the clear light yoga exercises of the Chakrasamvara, Hevajra, and other Mother Tantras, since transmitted from Hevajra, Dombipa, and Lavapa; in addition to
Main article: Shangpa Kagyu
The Shangpa Kagyu  (shangs missouri bka' brgyud) differs in origin through the better known Marpa Kagyu or Dagpo Kagyu school associated with Tibetan Buddhism that is the source of all current day Kagyu schools. The Dagpo Kagyu and its branches primarily came from the family tree of the Indian siddhas Tilopa and Naropa transported in Tibet through Marpa, Milarepa, Gampopa and their successors; although the Shangpa lineage descended from two female siddhas Naropa's consort Niguma [6] and Virupa's disciple Sukhasiddhi transmitted in Tibet in the 11th century by way of Kedrub Khyungpo Naljor. The tradition takes its name from the valley of Shang () where Khyungpo Naljor established the monastery of Zhong Zhong  or Zhang Zhong.
Intended for seven generations the Shangpa Kagyu lineage remained a one to one televison broadcasting.[7] Although there were a few wats or temples and retreat centres in Tibet and Bhutan associated with the Shangpa transmission, the particular Shangpa Kagyu never really became well-known there as an independent non secular institution or sect, but rather their teachings were transmitted down through the centuries by lamas owned by many different schools.
In the Last century the Shangpa Kagyu teachings were transported by the first Kalu Rinpoche who examined in the Palpung monastery one of the great centers of kagyu lineage and the seating of the Tai Situpa, who had many disciples in Tibet, India and the West.
Marpa Kagyu and Dagpo Kagyu[edit]
The Kagyu begins inside Tibet with Marpa Chkyi Lodr (1012 1097) who trained like a translator with Drogmi Lotsawa Shkya Yeshe ('brog mi lo ts'a ba sh'akya ye shes) (993 1050), and then traveled three times for you to India and four times so that you can Nepal in search of religious teachings. These instructions consist the variety of the completion stage (Skt. sampannakrama; Tib. rdzogs rim) techniques of different Buddhist highest yoga tantras (Skt. anuttarayoga tantra; Tib. rlung; ), vitality channels (Skt. ni, Tib. rtsa; ) and energy lowers (Tib. ) of the subtle vajra body in order to achieve the four types of bliss, this clear light mind in addition to realize Ghd Hair Straightener Myer the state of Mahmudr.
The Mahmudr lineage of Tilopa and Nropa is called the actual "direct lineage" or "close lineage" as it is said that Tilopa been given this Mahmudr realisation directly from a Dharmakaya Buddha Vajradhara and this was transmitted simply through Nropa to Marpa.
The "distant lineage" regarding Mahmudr is said to have come from the Buddha available as Vajradara through incarnations of the Bodhisattvas Avalokiteshvara and Manjusri to Saraha, then from him via Nagarjuna, Shavaripa, and Maitripa to Marpa. The Mahmudr lessons from Saraha that Maitripa transmitted so that you can Marpa include the "Essence Mahmudr" (snying po'i phyag chen) where Mahmudr is released directly without relying on philosophical reasons or yogic practices.
According to a number of accounts, on his 3 rd journey to India Marpa furthermore met Atia (982 1054) who later reached Tibet and helped found this Kadampa lineage [9]
Marpa and his successors[edit]
Marpa established the "seat" at Drowolung (gro bo lung) in Lhodrak (lho brag) in Southern Tibet just northern of Bhutan. Marpa married the lady Dagmema, in addition to took eight other concubines when mudras. Collectively they embodied the main consort in addition to eight wisdom dakini in the mandala connected with his yidam Hevajra. Marpa wanted to entrust a transmission lineage to his or her oldest son Darma Dode who perished in accident. Darma Dode's incarnation when Indian master Tiphupa became of importance to the Vibram Five Fingers Stockists Melbourne future development of Kagyu in Tibet.
