Let us strive to enhance their capacity to support themselves for as long as possible and when they can’t do so anymore, to care for them.”- Nelson Mandela.Under the theme, “Sustainability and age inclusiveness, in the urban environment,” the first senior citizens’ home on the West Bank Demerara was launched on Saturday at the Bagotville Primary School.The aim behind the initiative was said to be a need to reduce the feeling of isolation and loneliness amongst the elderly. Also, it was said to be a starter to promote an atmosphere of camaraderie and kinship.Several members of the newly founded senior citizens club on the West Bank Demerara, BagotvilleAt the club, the elderly will engage in dominoes, scrabble,Wholesale Jerseys From China, cards and showcasing their individual talents. Several past professionals involved in the club also aired their plans to visit schools and give lectures about the importance of morals and education. They also plan to visit other clubs across Regions Three and Four.The small gathering at the launch welcomed the initiative by the Ministry of Social Protection and expressed how happy they were that they can look forward to support from the business community every third Sunday in a month.The eldest person at the home is 87, while the youngest is 50.Based on observations and home visits, the need for the initiative was recognized by Minister of Social Protection, Volda Lawrence.
