By Romila BoodramA caretaker, Philbert Richards, who was employed with the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) in Albouystown, Georgetown for five years, was dismissed from duty for allegedly stealing and ‘turning’ the institution into his home.This newspaper was informed that for the past five years the YMCA would frequently receive donations from abroad. The items went to the YMCA in Albouystown, so that Richards could distribute them to the residents in the area. Instead, reports were that the items were being sold.Yesterday, when this newspaper visited the YMCA, Community members gathered in disappointment after touring the compound and witnessing the terrible condition of the building “inside,Cheap NFL Jerseys China, out”.According to Kelvin Harris, a member of the YMCA, he had received information from members of the Community that “Richard’s behaviour and attitude were not in the public interest.” He added that “(Richards) comes in at 11:00 in the night; apparently he had persons working with him, who we are not aware of.”Items being “dumped” and left behindRichards reorganized various departments within the YMCA. Barrels with items were abandoned while clothes were scattered on the floor. Reports were also made that Richards would normally take pictures as he “falsely” handed over gifts to persons but allegedly took back the gifts after the photograph.According to Harris, he was made aware of the situation through members of the community. “A visit was paid and since then Richards disappeared”. Harris further told this newspaper that he feels that Richards had intentions of ruling and controlling the entire YMCA.Many attempts to contact Richards all proved futile. According to Harris notices were sent to his (Richards’) address but “he changes his address frequently”.YMCA is a Non -Governmental charitable organization with one of its purposes being to engage youths in global development issues. The association also promotes awareness and advocacy through the function of its Volunteer Action Teams.One key role is to help low- income persons in the community.
