Steve Curreri likes the dude larg half handshake, half arm about the back, with a double pat. Lots of dudes do it, however few do it with such eagerness from the get go.

"I started DJing whenever i was 13 years old, around middle school," says the Annadale resident, who teaches with Totten Intermediate. "I just fell in love with the art of hip hop. From that this just took off. My abilities developed kind of quickly, I reckon that. High school, college, everybody locally wanted my mixtapes."

Of course, that was old style Curreri, aka The Cutmaster. These days, he isn't exactly blowing up on the DJ scene, though his regular sets at Black Doggy Grill and teaching beauty salon The Academy NYC (some sort of Paul Mitchell partner school) have supporters. There are reasons for that. For instance, Curreri can tell a familiar narrative about life's complicated options. Just as he was getting attention for his mixtapes, your 20 something DJ had also been on the college road when it comes to becoming a teacher.
"I was carrying out both of these things for quite a while, nevertheless it kind of got to a point wherever I had to choose which way I needed to go," he confesses. "Even though I loved DJing, I had to make my choice. My spouse and i took a bit of a break.Inches

Along with spinning are living twice a week, The Cutmaster can be putting out mixtapes again. He's clearly a fan of the mash up, evidenced on his latest mixtape, "Fall 2007 Smash Up Party Quickly pull," which has the DJ meticulously layering songs for instance 50 Cent's "Ayo Technology" with Justin Timberlake's "Cry Us a River." He would not put as much stock of the new hot track when he does in picking deciding on music that goes together well.

But there are variations between The Cutmaster and other modern mixtape DJs.
"I really try to avoid announcing this name every 30 seconds from the mixtapes. As a listener, I types of hate that, so I seek to stay away from it," they smiles. "I try to let the new music speak for itself, you know?"
Will this friendly neighborhood DJ hit it big? Not likely he's had a few updates, like an article in "Industry Magazine" yet what Curreri is looking forward to is maybe teaching another DJ group at Totten Intermediate.
"I really make an effort to do things by the e book, my DJing is really quite independent than my school training, but I might do one more class the kids had a wide range of fun. And I'd like to begin throwing parties on my own terminology, like a couple of holiday events or something," he says. "Now that I've been doing this for a while, to be a teacher offers me an opportunity do get out there a little more. So far, I'm loving it. It is always good to be back."
