It is one week now since the National Grade Six Assessment results were published. There was much celebration from the students who were placed at the top schools. Their parents, their schools and their communities celebrated. The schools where these students are placed are implementing a six-year programme instead of a five-year programme.In the first of the six years, students are given an opportunity to bridge the gaps in their learning through the six-year transitional Curriculum which uses a student centered approach to learning. This curriculum allots 75 per cent of its time to Literacy and Numeracy in order to ensure that students acquire basic Literacy and Numeracy skills that will aid them in accessing the Secondary Curriculum.
