Missing US citizen…Tipped off about unmarked graves in the Buxton backlands, police yesterday conducted an intensive search in the community for the body of missing American Kwame Jobronewet, and for the remains of other persons who disappeared during the crime wave.The team scoured areas along Brusche Dam near Pond Dam, but failed to locate any burial sites or any trace of 67-year-old Jabronewet, who disappeared almost a month ago.It is the second time that police ranks have searched the once crime-ridden community for the missing American.Kaieteur News understands that someone had informed the police last week about the presence of a recently dug grave in the backlands along Pond Dam.The source had also claimed that there were older graves in the area and that two sugar workers who had disappeared mysteriously during the crime wave were buried there.The ‘grave site’ the person alleged, also contained the remains of Trinidadian gunmen who were slain during a confrontation with a criminal gang that had used Buxton as a safe haven.A man identified as a Trinidad mercenary was indeed slain in a confrontation in Buxton during the early period of the crime wave.There have been persistent rumours that the ‘Buxton gunmen’ had used the backlands as a burial site for their victims. In 2008, the Joint Services unearthed a human skeleton while clearing the backlands of foliage to prevent the gunmen from using the area as a haven.The remains were never positively identified.Jabronewet disappeared on June 12,Cheap Jerseys, shortly after visiting relatives in Buxton.Although there were reports that he had left the community, a Buxton shopkeeper had stated that a man fitting Jabronewet’s description, and with an American accent, had tried to buy a soft drink with foreign coins at his shop on the night of June 12.The shopkeeper said he refused to sell the American after informing him that the coins had ‘no value’ to him.It appears that Jobronewet’s relatives no longer believe that his disappearance is due to memory loss. They now seem to be convinced that he has been harmed.Last week, the man’s relatives revealed that that they received a call from someone who claimed to have knowledge of his whereabouts.They said the caller claimed that Jobronewet had contracted malaria and demanded $1.6M from the relatives.However, the caller never contacted the family again.The American was reportedly last seen wearing a pair of blue trousers, a white shirt with blue stripes, black shoes and a white Kangol cap.
