The trial of murder accused Danny Busjit, 27, of Mibicuri Black Bush Polder, Berbice, continued before Justice Brassington Reynolds in the Berbice High Court on Wednesday with the prosecution, led by State Counsel Dionne McCammon, calling two witnesses.Busjit is on trial for the November, 25, 2005 murder of 73-year-old overseas-based Guyanese, Kalidas Surujnarine, whose head was severed, at Mibicuri.Wednesday’s session ended with a voir dire (trial within a trial) to determine the admissibility of a statement purportedly made by the accused.The voir dire came about after defence attorney Mursulene Bacchus, in association with Kim Kyte-John,Wholesale Authentic NFL Jerseys, objected to the statement during the testimony of Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police, Gary Mc Allister.The attorneys said that the document was not obtained freely and voluntarily, and cited a number of reasons for their objection, including threats and promises.Mc Allister in his evidence said that the accused had elected to make a written statement.The police officer had earlier testified that after contacting the accused at the Mibicuri Police Station and putting the allegation to him, the man had promised to tell him what happened.Earlier, Detective Sergeant 14169 Richard Frank, who was the first to take the witness stand, testified as to the role he played in the investigation.He stated that on November 27, 2005, around 09:00 hrs, after receiving certain information he contacted the accused and put the allegation to him. He told the court that the accused remained silent and was arrested and taken to the Mibicuri Police Station.The witness further noted that later in the day, the accused had taken him to a spot in his mother’s yard where they found, US$344 in a plastic bag, a yellow metal chain and six wrist watches.Detective Frank testified that during a confrontation with his mother the accused admitted to the crime and stated that it was he, along with one Deryck and one Rafeek, who had killed Surujnarine.He said that he had told his mother about what happened and she had quarreled with them.Detective Frank further testified that the woman had admitted to being told of the crime and said that she had quarreled with the trio, but did not tell the police because she was afraid.The trial is continuing. |
