who was charged with raping and assaulting a 53-year-old woman
Stanford Dick, who was charged with raping and assaulting a 53-year-old woman, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by Justice Roxanne George Wiltshire. The incident occurred on October 25, 2008.Prosecutors Pritima Kissoon and Konyo Sandiford represented the state and attorney at law George Thomas represented the accused. A probation report was submitted to the court, by a Welfare Officer. The Judge started off the sentencing with a total of 30 years, following the usual sentencing guidelines.A total of one third of the 30 years was taken off because of Dick’s guilty plea. Another two years were taken off because of his time served in prison, while three years were deducted due to mitigation by his lawyer. This brought it down to 15 years. The judge during her sentencing noted all the aggravating factors. “One’s home is one’s sanctuary…your conduct is reprehensible,” the judge stated. And lastly for the guilty plea which was given for the assault the judge sentenced him to two years, but that was considered as time served. The state’s case was that Dick went to the woman’s home and told her that he had his eyes on her 14-year-old daughter.Dick told the victim that he wanted to have sex with the teenager, but she pleaded with him to take her instead.Dick then ripped the victim’s clothes off and had sexual intercourse with her. It was alleged that Dick then took a seat in the woman’s home and asked her for a glass of “water”.The man then started talking with the woman and left about five minutes after. The victim later identified Dick as the person who raped her. |
