000 worth of educational material
ROSE HALL TOWN, BERBICE – The Rose Hall Youth and Sports Club successfully pulled off their second annual Mash Parade last week.Mash celebration in Rose Hall.This year the event saw nine schools in the Lower Corentyne area participating.Some 500 students from the J.C. Chandisingh, Port Mourant and Lower Corentyne Secondary Schools; the Corentyne Comprehensive High School; Rose Hall Town, Port Mourant and the Belvedere Primary Schools; along with the Rose Hall Town and Ankerville Nursery Schools, in addition to the members of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, all came together to mash it up their way.The parade moved off from the Port Mourant Primary School and made its way to Hampshire, then back to the Area ‘H’ Ground at Rose Hall Town where it ended.The event was followed by an open-air concert. Chief Executive Officer of the Rose Hall Youth and Sports Hilbert Foster said that the aim of the parade was to emphasise the need for young people to be educated and live a drug-free life.“We achieved our goal – the message was delivered to thousands of youths between the ages of ten to 18 years old, and we know we succeeded. This is a part of our ‘Pro-education and Anti-Drug Campaign’.”Mr. Foster called on the students to renew their commitment towards the development of Guyana, since the future of the country lay in their hands. Making the event possible were the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Cellink, the Beharry Company, the Department of Education, Guyana Police Force, Spready’s Bakery, Dave’s Television Station and other business entities.Meanwhile, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club on Friday played host to some Grade Five students of the Strathspey Primary School during a field trip. This was one of the Mashramani events for the school.The club, along with Farfan and Mendes Under-15 and the Pepsi Under-19 Cricket Clubs, handed over to the 50 students and their teachers some $200,000 worth of items which consisted of hygiene kits and other paraphernalia. The six top students each received $5,000 worth of educational material, while the others got games and other tokens.The visiting party expressed gratitude to the club, and also mentioned how impressed they were by the work done by the organisation. |
