| Public-spirited persons in the city have played their part in ensuring that three bandits spend the Christmas behind bars following two robberies on Friday.One of the men was caught by police ranks on patrol,Andrew Miller Indians Jersey, trying to escape in a minibus, while the other two were held by citizens and handed over to the law enforcement officers.Police in a press release stated that around 15:00 hours Annette Dolphin, a vendor, was attacked and robbed of her personal jewellery by a man who was armed with a handgun in the Stabroek Market area.An alarm was raised and public-spirited persons chased after the perpetrator who discharged rounds into the air as he fled.The man then attempted to force a taxi driver to assist him in his escape bid and after the driver refused, the perpetrator joined a route 42 minibus.But his attempted escape was thwarted by police ranks who arrived on the scene in the nick of time.The ranks responding quickly to the report and managed to intercept the minibus along the East Bank Demerara Public Road and arrested the suspect.A .38 snub-nose revolver and four rounds along with two empty shells were found in his possession.And around 22:30 hour the same day, Clevon Forde of Wismar Housing Scheme, Linden, was also attacked and robbed of his personal jewellery at Hadfield and Camp Streets, Georgetown, this time by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.Forde raised an alarm and again public-spirited persons gave chase behind the men who were caught and handed over to the police.All three suspects are expected to face the courts tomorrow. |
