Guyana has recorded a 100 percent pass rate, with Grade One to Three, in the offered subject areas of Theatre Arts, Physical Education and Sports at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Examination. There were also excellent performances in the technical/vocational subject areas, according to Minister of Education, Shaik Baksh.The Minister also revealed that in the area of building technology, the performance improved from last year’s 73.4 percent to 89.3 percent; Clothing and Textiles from 79.9 percent to 87.7 percent while the performance in Electricity and Electronics Technology soared to 67.5 percent, up from 49.8 percent which was reflected in last year’s performance. Food and Nutrition mounted from 81.9 percent in 2009 to an even 90 percent this year.Grade One to Three passes in Information Technology soared from 12.5 last year to 86 percent this year. Performance in English B moved from unsatisfactory in 2009 with 38.4 percent (Grade One to Three) to satisfactory this year with 65.54 percent (Grade One to Three).“We have made English B (Literature) almost compulsory now so we expect that will increase the performance of English A.
