A Sophia woman is calling ‘fire and brimstone’ on police officers whom she claimed visited her residence while she was away,World Cup Jerseys, broke into her home and stole some of her valuables.Denise Hilliman of 490, Block X, A Field, Sophia, said that the incident occurred around 11:00 hrs yesterday morning while she was at the home of a relative in the city.She said that since her house in under renovation, she is now staying in the city while her children are housed in a small structure in the yard and are taken care of by an elderly male cousin.She said that when she arrived at her home in Sophia, she was informed by neighbours that the police had forced their way into her yard and had broken several windows, a door and an iron gate to enter the building. She said that the police barged their way into her home and ransacked it before removing two cellular phones, and her passport.The woman said that she was informed earlier that the police had visited her home and informed her relatives that she was wanted for a $500,000 larceny committed at the Muneshwer’s Travel Service office in Georgetown.She said that on Saturday last, she had visited the travel office to inquire about the cost of a return ticket to St. Maarten. She said the clerk there was dealing with another customer so she seated herself nearby and waited.According to Hilliman, two other customers entered and the clerk continued to ignore her and began to deal with them. The woman said she became angry and promptly left the office after.Hilliman appeared aghast at the accusations and claims that she has no access to any monies at the travel agency and therefore bluntly refuted the claims. She further explained that her young daughter is involved with a young man of bad influence, and the police overtime have been turning up at her residence repeatedly inquiring about his whereabouts.She said that her efforts to quash the relationship has proved futile and the police on numerous occasions had locked her up, claiming that she was an accomplice to his wrongdoings.The woman said that on every occasion she is forced to pay exorbitant sums to the police to be released from custody and over time has grown frustrated with the situation. She said that the police yesterday also arrested a security guard she had employed to watch the materials used for renovation, claiming that the man was wanted for armed robbery.Calls to the Muneshwer’s Travel Service Office yesterday was met with mixed responses. One female staff affirmed that the incident occurred and that the accused is a shoplifter.The male clerk from whom it is said the cash was stolen, remained almost mum on the subject.While at first he denied that the incident ever occurred, he, however, noted that “they have made a report and the police are dealing with the matter”. |
