| The Ministry of Housing has achieved its allocation target of over 5,000 house lots for this year. More are expected to be distributed before year-end since the Ministry intends to host more One Stop Shops.Housing Minister Irfaan Ali mde this assertion during a recent interview with this publication. He said the total number of One Stop Shops hosted by the Ministry for the year 2013 stands at eight. After distribution of these current sets of land along the East Bank Demerara in areas such as Farm, there is probably one more area before the stretch becomes saturated.Essentially, this is the reason why the Ministry has prioritized the development of Silica City. Design works have already commenced.“We are working with Lands and Survey to earmark the area… to define the area… and it would be a complete mix of development. We are hoping in Silica City we can have some eco-tourism, industrial development, commercial development, residential golfing community and also a low income community, with a farmstead, so it is not an easy community to plan,” Ali said.He emphasized that it will take a lot of effort for the Ministry to ensure it has the right mix of development that would ensure the success of Silica City. |
