| An agreement is to be signed within days between the Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) and the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) to formalise the sale of electricity from the new Skeldon sugar facility.According to a senior official close to the deal, GuySuCo is expected to provide an average of 8 megawatts of power to GPL for distribution to the Berbice grid.The new factory has a co-generation plant (using bagasse as one of its fuel elements) which is intended to make it self-sufficient with respect to power supply, while at the same time producing extra to be distributed in the Berbice area. However, the plant was unable to fully do this since the old transmission lines in Berbice were unable to take the load.But upgrades were done earlier this year and negotiations,Nike Air Max 2018 Release, which started last year to determine how much GPL will have to pay, were recently completed.Kaieteur News understands that this may include cash since the sugar company does not really conduct any significant business with GPL that could have seen a swap deal.The outcome of the negotiations had to get the approval of the Public Utilities Commission.Over the past months, instead of cash payments,Cheap Nike Epic React Flyknit, GPL had been supplying the fuel to GuySuCo as well as paying for some costs, including maintenance.The plant has an installed capacity of up to 40 megawatts.The Skeldon factory was commissioned by President Bharrat Jagdeo on the 22nd August, 2009. Construction commenced in September 2005, with the factory taken over by the Corporation in March 2009.GPL had announced long term plans to link Georgetown with Berbice, and fully upgrade the transmission lines and build several sub-stations along the way.A US$40M Chinese loan agreement has been signed.OMAT concludes successful week– More than 400 receive free medical careThanks to Linden Fund USA and the Overseas Medical Assistance Team (OMAT), more than four hundred persons in and around Linden were afforded the opportunity to access free medical care, including surgeries and/or medical advice over the past week, at several health centers’ including the Linden Hospital Complex.And according to CEO of the Linden Hospital complex Dr Farouk Riyastat, at least 50-60 persons were screened for surgery on the first very first day the team started working.Most of the surgeries were for hysterectomies, fibroids, thyroids, and hernia, it was reported. Persons were also treated for several other health conditions including hypertension and diabetes.This is the third year that the Linden Fund has sponsored a medical outreach to Linden and Region 10. The first was in 2007 in collaboration with a 30-member medical team called the North East Mission of Hope, which performed a number of medical procedures for residents of Linden and neighbouring communities.The team also hosted a Health Fair and a Women’s Wellness Forum on August 10 at the Linden Enterprise Network building on Republic Avenue. Both were well attended and received by members of the public.Some of the topics that were covered by the medical team included Diabetes, Cancer among men and women, Mental Health, HIV and AIDS awareness, Cholesterol management, Domestic Violence and Child Abuse. Participants touted the sessions as very educative and expressed appreciation for the timely intervention by Linden Fund and OMAT.However because of a mix-up no workshop was held at the Christianburg Community Centre as planned, but several members of the Community were however able to access free medical care at the nearby Health Centre.Need for inpatient carefor psychiatric patientsMeanwhile at a meeting held with CEO of the Linden Hospital Complex, Farouk Riyastat and Administrator Trevor Vangenderen,Nike Air Max Shoes For Men, members of the OMAT advised their local counterparts that considering the number of ‘mental’ patients who are presently registered as outpatients at the institution, serious consideration should be given to establishing a unit for those patients with the need for constant medical supervision.Presently there are about forty psychiatric patients registered at Linden, who go to the hospital once per month to see the visiting psychiatrist, according to reports.Both Riyastat and Vangenderen were in support of establishing the inpatient facility,Cheap NFL Jerseys, and Dr Riyastat said that initially the hospital can provide between four to six beds to accommodate patients.However there would be the need to train staff specifically to deal with these patients, it was pointed out, as presently there are only a few nurses who have been trained in mental health care.It was suggested that a proposal needs to be prepared and submitted to the Ministry of Health, for the necessary support to facilitate the inpatient psychiatric care, as early as possible.
