City Magistrate Fabayo Azore granted two policemen bail in the sum $50,000 each after they were jointly slapped with charges of simple larceny and assault.Darren Cameron, 25, of 30 Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden and his colleague, Odwin Amsterdam, 24, are accused of assaulting Kurt Saulker on January 15, at Kingston Seawalls.It was further alleged that on January 15, at the same location they stole a Blackberry cell phone valued $25,000 and $25,000 in cash, property of Saulker.The policemen pleaded not guilty to the charges on Wednesday, after they appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.Police Prosecutor, Bharrat Mangru, presented the prosecution’s case. He informed the court that on the day in question, the police were on motorcycle patrol duties when the victim was sitting with his family on the seawalls.Mangru said that the lawmen approached Saulter, slapped him with a gun and relieved him of the articles mentioned in the charge.They then made good their escape with the articles. The Prosecutor did not object to bail and indicated that ten witnesses are slated to testify in the matter.Cameron’s Attorney, Peter Hugh, asked for his client to be released on his own recognizance. The lawyer contended that Cameron has no pending or previous matters before a court of law. He added that his client has one minor child and is stationed at the Mackenzie Police Station.The defendants were granted bail in the sum of $25,000 respectively on each charge.
