As road deaths continue to climb, motorists found liable of causing the death of pedestrians by dangerous driving are facing the full brunt of the law. Such a case concluded Wednesday before Magistrate Judy Latchman, in the GeorgetownDead: Jayden CharlesMagistrates’ Court.Thirty-five year-old Paul John, of North Sophia, was jailed for 58 months after he was found guilty of causing the death of four-year-old Jayden Charles by dangerous driving. John was at the time piloting a route 45 minibus, BPP 1702, in the northern direction of the roadway. While doing so, John stopped in the vicinity of Giftland to put off two passengers. After doing so, the vehicle moved off and ran over the child.The facts disclosed that the driver felt the impact and stopped the minibus some distance from the impact, when he discovered the four-year-old lying on the road. The injured child was transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital, in the said minibus. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the institution.During the summing up of evidence, Magistrate Latchman told the court that the prosecution called five witnesses to testify.
