| … Alpha Guest House owner killingAfter more than 18 months of painstaking investigation, the police appear to have finally cracked the case involving the murder of Alpha Guest House Proprietrix, Roselaine Pearl Hall.The breakthrough came with the arrest of Hall’s former husband Alex Barker, called ‘Amkabima’, at Bartica on Tuesday.Dead: Roselaine Pearl HallBarker, for whom a wanted bulletin was issued two months after Hall went missing, was brought to the city yesterday, and under intense interrogation he reportedly gave detectives vital pieces of the puzzle.Kaieteur News understands that armed with information provided by Barker, detectives swooped down on the dead woman’s husband, Romeo Rockerfeller, and arrested him.According to a source, from all indications the two men had plotted and executed the murder of the hotel proprietrix, whose badly decomposed body was found in a trail on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway a few weeks after she disappeared.On January 30, 2008, Roselaine Hall, a citizen of the United States of America and owner of the Alpha Guest House disappeared.Hall had reportedly been last seen leaving a hairdressing salon in the city.According to reports, her ex-husband had picked her up and she went back to her guest house where she collected $22,000 from the cashier and left with the man.Her husband, Romeo Rockerfeller, a close friend of Alex Barker, was said to have been in Trinidad at the time of her disappearance. He returned to Guyana under a different name four days after.Rockerfeller had told this newspaper that he left Guyana a week before his wife disappeared.He claimed that Hall was scheduled to join him on the island. He also stated that he was in constant contact with his wife, the last time being the day before she disappeared. He even claimed that he tried contacting his wife’s former husband (Barker) who had earlier told friends that the woman had left for Suriname.Alex Barker called ‘Amkabima’However, checks were made at the various ports of entry and it was ascertained that Hall might have never left Guyana.Since Hall was a US citizen, friends contacted the American Embassy and were advised to report her disappearance to the police.But there was always a suspicion that Hall’s ex-husband, Barker, had something to do with her disappearance.Staffers at the Alpha Guest House had told this newspaper that, following her disappearance, Barker had collected all of her personal and business documents from her apartment in the South Road property.The man had even taken over the hotel in the days prior to Rockerfeller’s return.Kaieteur News was told that Barker, who was also employed by Hall as the guest house’s painter, had told staff, one day after she disappeared, that he had received a Power of Attorney signed by the woman, which gave him control over the business until she returned.He also made changes at the guest house, fired staff and hired new ones.Then the suspicions grew even more when Barker reportedly contacted Rockefeller and informed him that his missing wife’s car was at Parika, East Bank Essequibo.After collecting the car, Rockefeller was detained by police, but was released after intense questioning.A female relative was also detained for questioning.In the ensuing weeks speculation upon speculation began circulating with everything pointing heavily to Barker’s involvement in Hall’s disappearance.Hall’s mother, Joyce McPherson-Hall, who lives in the US, had claimed that she had called her daughter’s cellular phone just to hear her voice on her answering machine.McPherson-Hall had said that her daughter was also in the process of completing a divorce from Rockerfeller.Rockerfeller did not deny this, but said his wife had only done so out of anger and had later informed him that she had scrapped the matter.“She told me that she wanted a divorce because she was upset at the time, and went and file something, but then she tell me that she went to the judge and scrap it,” he had claimed.Six weeks after her disappearance, a shocking discovery was made.The decomposed remains of a female, wrapped in blue tarpaulin,Wholesale Jerseys China, was discovered in the vicinity of Yarrowkabra on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway dressed in clothing positively identified as those worn by the missing Alpha Hotel owner, Roselaine Pearl Hall, the day she was last seen.The body was discovered by workers in the area about one and a half miles off the Linden Highway.Among the remains were a black brassiere, a pair of multi-coloured underwear, a pair of black denim pants and a white blouse with ‘Solution S” printed on it.Hall, a United States citizen by birth, had come to Guyana to run the guest house following the death of her father Byron Dick who was gunned down outside his home in 2003.Dick was the original owner of all of the Alpha Hotel outlets. |
