Just as firefighters were replacing their hoses after fighting one fire yesterday morning in Betsy Ground East Canje, they were summoned to another inferno in the same district. This second blaze has left 10 homeless.A two-storey wooden building at Lot 8 Cinema Street, Reliance Settlement, was razed to the ground when Fire suspected to be electrical in origin swept through the building.The owner, Chanderpaul Sett,Deion Sanders Falcons Jersey, 54, a tractor operator at the nearby Rose Hall Estate, lived in the house with his wife, Yasodra Sett, 48, and six children and two grandchildren.According to Mr. Sett, he had lived there for all of his life having inherited the premises from His parents. The man stated that when the fire broke out everyone was at home. He and his wife were down stairs while his children were in the house.He was alerted by his kids. He said that he immediately raced upstairs and was confronted by the blaze which was emanating from the back room in the upper flat. He could do nothing at that time, but raise an alarm and make sure that all his family members were safe. He said that they hurried out of the house.Neighbours responded by forming a bucket brigade, and worked feverishly, but they were no match for the raging inferno, which quickly engulfed the wooden house. By the time the fire tender arrived the building was almost completely destroyed.According to Sett, his house was well furnished. He lost everything. He is estimating his losses to be millions of dollars.Personnel’s from the police force, the Guyana Fire Service and GPL were conducting their investigation well into the afternoon.. |
