| Investigators briefly detained an East Bank Demerara businessman for questioning into the slaying of 34-year-old Thakoor Persaud.However, the businessman was released when investigators found nothing to link him to the crime.The police are of the view that Persaud’s death is drug related. Sources close to the investigation told this newspaper that the businessman who was detained operates a fleet of trawlers.Persaud was linked to a major cocaine bust in which drug agents found millions of dollars worth of cocaine in fish and fish glue at an Enterprise, East Coast Demerara residence.He was however never convicted for drug trafficking.Meanwhile, police have released Persaud’s two employees who were with him when he was shot and killed last Tuesday on the UNAMCO Trail.The men were detained for questioning immediately after they reported the shooting.Sources close to the investigation had said that the two employees were first questioned separately at the Wismar and Mckenzie Police Stations.They were traveling with Persaud when the attack occurred. Initial reports are that Persaud, his brother-in-law Solomon Low-A-Chee and another friend Ravi Deobarran, were heading to Persaud’s mining operation at 28 Miles UNAMCO Road, Berbice River when they were reportedly ambushed by gunmen.Robbery had initially seemed to be the motive, but investigators now believe that the killing was drug-related.She was told that her brother-in-law and the other man did not bother to wake Persaud,Cheap MLB Jerseys, who was asleep, for assistance to move the fallen tree.She said her brother-in-law told her that as they were about to move the tree from their path, they were ambushed by an unknown number of gunmen.A police statement indicated that Persaud and two other men were traveling in motor pick up GKK 8654, along a trail through a logging concession, when they observed a log across the trail.While the three men were in the process of removing the log they came under gunfire, during which Persaud was reportedly hit while the other two men managed to escape into the forest.It was stated in the police release that the two men later returned and used the vehicle to drive to the Kwakwani Police Station where the matter was reported.The police subsequently visited the scene where Persaud’s body was found with suspected gunshot wounds.Sources say the man’s licenced firearm went missing. |
