| Residents of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, can now look forward to a better and adequate water supply as the newly completed $63.2M Lusignan Number Two well station located at the Lusignan Community Centre Ground, was officially commissioned Friday by Minister of Housing and Water, Irfaan Ali.According to Minister Ali, the new well will complement the original one which is located a few streets away and persons who have been having no supply or low water supply would be able to benefit with the addition of this new structure.Ali, according to government release, noted that the completion of the well is another accomplishment by the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) in achieving one of the targets set early this year by the agency.Government has allocated in excess of $378M to offset developmental projects within his Ministry with plans of completing six water treatment plants in Lima, Region Two,Cheap Air Max 270 Mens, Vergenoegen,Jerseys NFL Cheap, Region Three,NFL Cheap Jerseys, Central Ruimveldt and Sophia, Georgetown, Queenstown,China Jerseys, Region Six and Cotton Tree, Region FiveThe projects will also include new service connections, meter installations and the transmission mains.The new Lusignan Number Two well has been drilled 890 feet with the capacity to provide potable water to an estimated 4,000 people. It produces 163 cubic metres of water per hour, and was funded by the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF)The construction of infrastructure across the country is part of the GWI’s extension of infrastructure consolidation plan to improve the lives of all Guyanese.On June 10, 2009 two contracts valued $107M were signed by the Basic Needs Trust Fund for the drilling and construction of wells at the Diamond/ Grove, East Bank Demerara and Lusignan, East Coast Demerara communities.The Diamond/Grove well was constructed at a cost of $56M and was drilled at a depth of approximately 690 feet. It has the capacity to cater for 50 percent increase in households with both projects undertaken by a Trinidadian based contractor, Water and Oil Wells Services, and supervised by CEMCO.The Diamond/Grove well was drilled in 1970 and was rehabilitated in 2001.It has been providing potable water to an estimated 15,Air Max 270 Sale,000 people. As a result of recent housing development in the area a new well was required to supply an additional 8,000 people with potable water.This year, the release said, the budget has allocated $2.7B for the water sector and will be spent in various ways, focusing on the agenda that comprises extending services to communities that do not have service and improving the quality of service for those that have.Service connection upgrades and metering will be done at Bartica, Leguan, Patentia,China Jerseys, Soesdyke, Herstelling, Nabaclis,NFL Jerseys Outlet, Craig, Prospect and Covent Garden while the distribution networks at Half Mile and One Mile and transmission mains from Mackenzie to Richmond Hill will be rehabilitated. |
