| The Inter-American Development Bank has approved funding under the Unserved Areas Electrification Programme (UAEP) for the construction of a new network for the residents of the Timehri area.This was revealed in a release from the Guyana Power & Light Inc. (GPL) which expects construction of the project to commence within the next two weeks and be completed by the end of August this year.GPL noted that the new network will result in all consumers who used to pay monthly electricity bills to the Region Four Administration and who have not been issued an eviction notice becoming consumers of the utility company, thus all payments would have to be done through the company or their agents.The Guyana Power & Light also requested consumers to take heed that all persons who have been served with removal notices by the management of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) would not be eligible to apply for new services from GPL and will not benefit from the network.Hence, the GPL states for the purpose of clarity,Bismack Biyombo Jersey, “persons living in the Prison and Fire Service Housing Schemes, businesses around the airport periphery and residents around the access road to Jubilee Resort would be excluded”.The power company stated that it will be dispatching a mobile commercial team during the next week to receive applications for the service.The exact date and time when the team will be dispatched will be advertised later this week.It was also emphasized that from September 1, the old existing network will be de-energized, dismantled and removed.All applicants would be required to pay $10,000 as a non-refundable capital contribution and $5000 as a refundable security deposit. |
